When the sun sets over Hocking Hills, the adventure doesn’t have to end. John Glenn Astronomy Park gives visitors the opportunity to experience the region’s remarkably dark night skies and discover a completely different side of southeastern Ohio.

Located within Hocking Hills State Park, the astronomy park was created to provide a place away from heavy artificial light where visitors can reconnect with the night sky. On clear evenings, guests may see countless stars, prominent constellations, planets, and other celestial objects that can be much harder to appreciate from brightly lit cities and suburbs.

The park hosts public astronomy programs during parts of the year, with volunteers using telescopes to help visitors explore the sky. You don’t need to be an experienced astronomer—or even own a telescope—to enjoy a visit. Binoculars and the naked eye can provide an unforgettable stargazing experience, while photography enthusiasts can take advantage of the dark surroundings for astrophotography. Public programs are weather-dependent, so checking the park's calendar and conditions before visiting is recommended.

Located less than a mile west of the Old Man’s Cave Visitor Center, John Glenn Astronomy Park is an easy addition to a Hocking Hills getaway and an especially memorable experience for couples, families, photographers, and anyone curious about the universe.
